These are the main elements:

• Before joining the programme, we ask you to get to know us a little by coming to some services and events – you owe it to yourself to make sure that WLS is the right place for you and there’s only one way to find out.
  
  
• If you’re sure that you want to convert with WLS, we will then arrange for you to meet one of our rabbis, who will talk to you about the conversion process and will make sure that you understand the commitment you will have to make.
  
  
• We will ask you to join a weekly class (on Wednesday evenings, between 6.45 and 10), where you will learn about Judaism as a religion, about Jewish history and culture and where you’ll learn to read Hebrew.  We’ll expect at least 80% attendance in total over the course of the year and all missed classes to be compensated for through supplementary readings (as provided by our team of educators and Rabbis).
  
  
• We will expect you to attend Shabbat services every week through the year and all the principal festival services, as well as some explanatory services and some of our events.
  
  
• Once you’re successfully through this year of preparation, you should be ready for the formal act of conversion.
  
  
• This involves your attending the Reform Bet Din – the rabbinic court – (usually one of our rabbis will go with you for moral support) and holding a discussion with three rabbis who will talk to you about your year and ask you some questions to satisfy themselves that you have learned enough about Judaism, are in a position to lead a Jewish life and have a deep enough commitment to become a Jew.
  
  
• Once they are satisfied and have agreed to your becoming a Jew, you’ll be asked to take part in the ritual of mikveh – immersion in a ritual bath that will mark your full acceptance into the community of Jews.
