Governance

The governance and running of the community is invested in a number of interconnected bodies:
Community
  • Members are at the centre of the way WLS is governed
Council
Council is the community’s Parliament, discussing and setting our overall direction and consists of:

Council is elected at the Annual General Meeting

Senate of Elders
  • The Senate of Elders is our House of Lords, challenging and advising Council and acting as the community’s collective memory.
Management Board
The Management Board is the community’s Government – turning Council’s policy into plans and consists of:

The Senior Management Group (SMG) is our Civil Service – putting the Board’s plans into action and consists of:

The Houses

We organise our activities in four ‘houses’ – adapting a traditional Jewish way of thinking about synagogue life. All our community activities are represented in one of these houses and each is led by one of Council’s Vice Chairs.

We have just established a strong and active Development Board under the leadership of David Fass.
