7.00pm Refreshments, 7.45 Screening - A donation towards catering costs is welcome.

To kick off the 2010/11 Kolnoa Season, we are screening Amit Lior's 2003 film Sipurei Beit Cafe-Cafe Tales, a lovely film nominated for five Israeli academy awards and which stars one of Israel's leading actors Moshe Igvy in the leading role of the struggling writer Yutz.

Leah Braun opened a little cafe in 1959 which became a haven for artists, writers and other creative types. Thirty years on and some shady developers want to move in, demolish the cafe and make some money. Learning of the plan, five of the cafe's regular customers band together to save their favourite hangout and ultimately themselves.

An off-beat comedy about people struggling to maintain their sanity in an insane reality.

Next: 14 October -  Ajami (Directors Scandar Copti and Yaron Shani) the extraordinary Oscar-nominated Israeli film set in Jaffa described as Israel's answer to Pulp Fiction, set in the Ajami neighbourhood of Old Jaffa.
