Young Adults: Torah On Tap (7:30PM)
Once a month we come together at The Temperance Pub to have a drink, spend time with old and new friends, and to study a bit of Torah. We always make sure to choose Jewish subjects which are appropriate for studying in a pub. We’ve looked at alcohol in Judaism, Jewish ghost stories, and mysticism among other subjects. We’ll be at The Temperance Pub on York Street (just around the corner from the synagogue at the corner of York and Enford Street – www.thetemperance.co.uk).

Adult Education CANCELLED (8:30PM)
We all know the stories...
but...
Do we really ‘KNOW’ the
stories?
Have we really READ the
stories?
Can we really RELATE to them?
In the Torah, and particularly in the Book of Genesis, we are introduced to a shocking array of complex relationships. Although some are delightful, most are dysfunctional, and some are disastrous, destructive or downright distasteful. Yet we opt to read them again and again!
Why when reading these ancient stories do you sometimes experience moments of poignancy, resonance, discomfort, exasperation, or maybe you don’t? What wisdom are you supposed to extract from them? What messages lie behind them? How do they contribute to the morality of Western society?
If the above interest you, then do come along to any or all of the sessions in this initial 6 part course. We’ll be examining some of these stories and relationships through a close reading of the narrative. From time to time we’ll also explore how these stories have been embraced through literature. Most importantly, we’ll also have the opportunities to bring to the discussion our own opinions, experience and insights.
