We have had a flourishing Jewish Preparation class for many years that welcomes Jews by Choice. It is in the tradition of Rabbi Hugo Gryn z’l who believed that we need to be welcoming and inclusive of those who want to learn about Judaism and join our community. They study Jewish festivals, life-cycle, history and traditions as well as the different denominations and their theology and philosophy. Over the years, a number of members have said to me that they would love to be part of a similar class, to study their tradition seriously, often having left serious Jewish study behind at their bar or bat mitzvah.
This course will follow the same curriculum as the Jewish preparation course over a two year period. As teachers, we find the most rewarding part of lessons is often the ongoing discussion with our students, so we hope that Access to Judaism students will feel able to make a commitment for each term. There will be a small charge for non-members to cover the cost of materials.
So, if you always wondered about why we stand under a chuppah at weddings or what make Caro such an important figure in Jewish literature, this is your chance to find out that and much more, as well as make new friends. It is a chance to learn a great deal in a supportive environment so that your Jewish experience becomes richer and deeper.
