16.00-17.00: CHORAL COMMUNITY SERVICE
in the Sanctuary
Come and join us for the beautiful Minchah service with its epic reading of the Book of Jonah, set against our WLS traditional liturgy with choral and organ music.
16.00-16.45: KOLEINU JONAH STUDY SESSION
in the Stern Hall
It can be said that Jonah was the most successful prophet of the Bible, for with just eight words he turned around the fate of an entire city. On one theological level, the story of Jonah conveys a simplistic message about God, who rewards the faithful and punishes the wicked. And yet, on a much deeper level, Jonah’s tale is a theological challenge to all those who undertake the transformative process of Yom Kippur. For believers and questioners alike, Jonah’s child-like tale goes to the very heart of the relationship between God and humanity – challenging us to question our earliest assumptions around faith. Join Rabbis Helen and David to explore the story and the theology.
