We are proud to be hosting a very special evening to mark the 2nd anniversary of Ukrainian Resistance and the continued response by World Jewish Relief to the plight of Ukrainians. The impact of the invasion has been catastrophic and WJR is still meeting urgent humanitarian needs, prioritising food, cash, medical, material, and  psychological support for the worst affected, whether fleeing their homes or unable to escape violence.

Join us from 18.30 for a special candlelit solidarity service in the Sanctuary, followed by a concert of sublime choral music featuring the compositions of the famous 19th century Ukrainian Jewish composer, Abraham Dunajewski (1843-1911). Dunajewski was Choirmaster of the Great Synagogue in Odessa, Ukraine for over 30 years but his remarkable work remains largely unexplored.

This concert will include a taster of a new album the WLS Choir will be recording, in the hopes of raising the voice of Jewish Ukrainians and bringing the best of Dunajewski’s remarkable output to a recorded medium for the first time ever. It will also mark the first performances of the majority of these works in over 100 years by a professional synagogue choir.

Following the concert, you are invited to join us for a buffet supper (not kosher certified) in the Stern Hall.

All the profits from the concert and buffet supper will go to World Jewish Relief’s Ukraine Crisis Appeal.
