Volunteer

The Social Care Team has over 50 social care volunteers, to visit our members in their own homes, in residential care or in hospitals. We also have a team of specially-trained volunteers dedicated to supporting the bereaved.  All of our volunteers receive on-going training and supervision and support. The volunteers run The Tuesday Club, host and drive to the tea parties, maintain contact by phone or by visits to members in need and wrap and deliver parcels at Pesach and over the High Holy Days.

The Rabbis and the Social Care Team would not have been able to look after the community as well as we all wish, without the help of volunteers from the congregation.

If you can spare some time and would like to really make a difference, there are plenty of opportunities for you to play a part in the caring and inclusive community that we strive to be, and in exchange for you to be enriched by the human contact and sense of friendship it creates.

Examples are: a couple of hours once a month driving older guests, and spending time with them at tea parties hosted by other members of the community, or hosting one of those tea parties once or twice a year; or an hour or so once every two to four weeks, visiting a member of the community who may be isolated and missing some company; or even picking up the phone to someone for a chat once a week, to give them something to think about, something to stimulate the brain, and to make them feel included in our community.

We are always happy to recruit new Social Care volunteers. So, pick up the phone or drop us an email, and let’s start discussing which one of the Social Care volunteering opportunities appeals to you.

We are always there to support the volunteer throughout their journey, and to ensure the process is enriching for all concerned.
